Over the past few days, summer planting work has been carried out in an orderly manner, including 20,000 mu of reclaimed salt fields in the city development zone and Ganyu District. "Yantianyu No.1" and other salt tolerant rice varieties developed and cultivated by the Municipal Academy of Agricultural Science are in the planting season. Having planted "seawater tolerated rice", the power of science and technology let the saline alkali land also start to breed the hope of harvest.

As a coastal city, our city has a large area of salt and alkali beaches. In order to make full use of the existing land and improve the rice yield, the agricultural scientific team of our city has been focusing on the selection of salt and alkali resistant rice varieties since 2010. At present, Yantianyu No.1, Lianjian No.7, Lianjian No.9 and many other salt tolerant rice varieties have been popularized through continuous screening.

It is known that the Municipal Academy of Agricultural Science is one of the important participants in the research and development center of "seawater tolerated rice" led by Academician Yuan Longping, and also one of the first five conventional japonica rice lines that have passed the production test of "seawater tolerated rice" in the Yellow Sea and Huaihai. Our city will make use of the advantages of geographical resources, carry out relevant technical research and basic application research, provide technical support and strength for the development of saline alkali land and contribute to the improvement of saline alkali land in China.
